Spotlight On: Clay Shirky
It’s already time for our next Standard Talk, taking place June 18th at 6:30pm at The Standard, New York. We will be talking about Gossip, what it means today, why we consistently engage in it, and all other dirty tidbits you might want to discuss.
One of our participants is the incredibly talented Clay Shirky, media thinker and doer. Clay has taken to the internet to write about a variety of subjects, from the future of the medium to the evolution of the relationships we create on(and off)line. He is also the author of “Cognitive Surplus” and “Here Comes Everybody”.
Come this Monday and enjoy his enlightening insight.

What’s behind the rumor that has the city abuzz? Why do you keep telling yourself you’ll stop gossiping, but can’t? In the secret world of word-of-mouth, who can journalists trust and how do they source their stories?
Peeling back the curtain on gossip, we look at one of the oldest traditions known to humankind. Today, with the Internet exploding with information, most of it impossible to control, how is it changing and where is it heading?
